Pizarro on Werder wish-list

Werder Bremen have still not given up hope of bringing Chelsea forward Claudio Pizarro to Germany this summer. The 30-year-old Peru international scored 28 goals for Werder while on loan last season, and manager Thomas Schaaf is keen to bring him back to the Weserstadion for the new campaign. Pizarro is a fans' favourite at Bremen, having spent two years in North Germany before joining Bayern Munich in 2001, and Schaaf will be hoping negotiations with the Blues go smoothly. "I hope we get Pizarro," he told German newspaper Bild. "Basically, we are considering where we can strengthen our team and what players can help us with their quality in the long term. "But we can only do what we can afford. We are doing all we can, but if we cannot sign any more players, then I cannot change it either." Bremen, who were beaten in their Bundesliga opener by Eintracht Frankfurt, are keen to avoid a repeat of the last campaign when they struggled to finish in the top 10.
