Perez reveals Ancelotti appeal

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has revealed that he thought about trying to make Carlo Ancelotti boss and wanted to sign Francesco Totti and Paolo Maldini. The Bernabeu supremo has confessed that he considered approaching current Chelsea manager Ancelotti when he was in charge at AC Milan. Perez wanted Ancelotti as successor to Vicente del Bosque, who left in 2003 and is now Spain chief, but did not believe the timing was right. "There were moments when I thought Ancelotti might become the coach of Real Madrid but I never found the right time for the move," he said. When Perez began a first spell at Real in 2000 he aimed to create a dynasty of the world's best players but did not sign everyone that he would have liked. He is disappointed that he missed out on signing Roma legend Totti and former AC Milan star Maldini. "Among all the Italian players, I always liked Totti, but it is very difficult for players like him to leave their clubs," he said. "I also liked (Maldini) so much and I always wanted him to come to play for Madrid, but it was never possible."
