Patrice Evra: Forget treble, Chelsea clash is far from over
Patrice Evra is refusing to think about winning the treble this season, insisting Manchester United's Champions League quarter-final with Chelsea is far from over.[LNB]United go into next Tuesday's second leg showdown with a precious 1-0 away goal advantage over the Blues after Wayne Rooney's strike proved the difference at Stamford Bridge.[LNB]With Sir Alex Ferguson's side clear by seven points at the top of the Barclays Premier League and in the last four of the FA Cup, talk of the club repeating their historic feat of 1999 continues to intensify.[LNB] Far from over: Evra block Frank Lampard's effort on the line but believes the Chelsea tie is far from over[LNB]Yet the French defender has warned his team-mates they must not overlook Carlo Ancelotti's men and should treat every match from now on as a final.[LNB]'We haven't spoke a lot about the treble, just about winning games and trying to give 100 per cent,' Evra told MUTV.[LNB]'We're very happy [beating Chelsea]. It was our first win at Stamford Bridge since 2002. It was important that we got the win and did the job.[LNB]'But for me, the job is not done. It's still 50/50. I have a lot of respect for Chelsea. [LNB]'Manchester United and Chelsea are the biggest clubs in the Premier League, always in the race for the title, so that's why this is not finished.[LNB] Last ditch: Evra hauled down Ramires inside the box late on but insisted he won the ball[LNB]'If we do manage to win the treble then I'll be very happy. But what is important for us is to win every game because every game for us now is a final.'[LNB]Evra could count himself fortunate to survive a late penalty appeal from Chelsea after it appeared he brought down Brazilian Ramires inside the box.[LNB]But the full-back insisted: 'I honestly wasn't expecting the referee to give a penalty.[LNB]'I tried to go for the ball and you could see I touched it. I was not scared that I had given away a penalty.'[LNB]But the 29-year-old full-back was pleased with the final result and hopeful United can go on to reach the semi-finals, against either Schalke or Inter Milan, of the competition.[LNB]He said: 'What is positive is that we always have good results at Old Trafford over them, much better than we do at Stamford Bridge, so we will try to win again.'[LNB] Smiles better!
