Ozil expects to see out Bremen contract
Mesut Ozil expects to see out the final year of his Werder Bremen deal and not follow team-mate Sami Khedira to Real Madrid this summer.[LNB] The 21-year-old has been linked with a move to the Spanish giants after turning down a new contract with the Bundesliga club, which means he will be available on a free transfer next summer.[LNB]However, Ozil does not expect any offer to tempt him away from Germany a year before his contract expires, like Khedira who left Stuttgart last week.[LNB]"I am really, really happy for Sami and I am keeping my fingers crossed for him," Ozil told the Bild am Sonntag newspaper.[LNB]"It is very good for German football that big clubs are interested in German players.[LNB]"In recent years, there has only really been Michael Ballack who represented German football at a top club.[LNB]"For now, my situation for the next 12 months is clear. Only the facts count and the fact is, I am under contract with Werder.[LNB]"I cannot know what comes after that."[LNB]Ozil insists a move before the end of his contract will not happen unless Werder insist on selling him.[LNB]he added: "I am a friend of honesty. Many people extend their contracts long-term for better conditions, but two weeks later, they want to leave.[LNB]"I have never done that but have rather always respected my contract and been happy to fulfil it.[LNB]"Why should now be any different?"[LNB]The 21-year-old playmaker saw his profile rocket this summer after a number of impressive showings at the World Cup finals.[LNB]However, as Ozil has just one year remaining on his current contract, they have accepted that they may need to cash-in now rather than lose him for nothing in 12 months time.[LNB]It is believed that a bid of around £12million could force their hand, and that sort of money is readily available to the best in the business.[LNB]Top clubs in the Premier League would have no problem finding such a sum and Ozil admits he would welcome a switch to England.[LNB]"There are four or five clubs in Europe that you would have to say as a player would be a dream to play for," the youngster said in the Daily Star Sunday.[LNB]"Manchester United and Chelsea are very much two of them. [LNB]"When you are looking at moving clubs it's impossible not to pay attention to the Premier League and even more impossible not to pay attention to Manchester United and Chelsea."[LNB]He added: "I am a winner and, when I am looking for a new club, I simply look at where I can be the most successful and where I can win the most trophies.[LNB]"If you look at the recent history of Manchester United and Chelsea then it's clear that a player can be very successful there.[LNB]"Of course clubs like Real Madrid and Barcelona are of huge interest and the Premier League's top two clubs are of serious interest to me when the time comes."[LNB]While hinting that he could be tempted to take on a new challenge in the near future, Ozil accepts that his future lies in the hands of Bremen.[LNB]He said: "I am under contract with Werder for another year and it is impossible for me to say if a deal will be done this summer. [LNB]"They may decide that they want to keep me for another season or they may decide to sell me this summer so they can get some money for me. That is up to the club."
