As John Terry explained why he rejected the riches of Manchester City, he also provided a rare glimpse of the way Roman Abramovich runs Chelsea. Terry revealed how he and senior players like Frank Lampard and Didier Drogba have become accustomed to discussing major issues with the owner, giving a new meaning to the idea of player power. Few footballers can boast such an influence but Abramovich was the only person who could convince Terry to stay at Stamford Bridge because the Chelsea captain was seeking guarantees about the billionaire's commitment to the club. Terry, 28, said: 'It's strange because never before have myself, Frank and people like Didier had that communication with him. He is a very successful businessman and he makes the final decisions, but he likes to have the opinion of the players. 'We're the ones living and breathing football life and if he can make a small improvement for us, on or off the pitch, he tries to do it. He wants to know the feedback from the lads. What's working or not working.'
