No Chelsea blues for SWP
06 Dec 2006 - 17:03:19
Chelsea winger Shaun Wright-Phillips has played down talk of a January transfer by insisting he wants to stay at Stamford Bridge and fight for his place.
The 25-year-old England international came off the bench and netted his first Chelsea goal in Tuesday's 2-0 victory over Levski Sofia.
The £21million signing hasn't enjoyed the most successful of times since moving to the Premiership champions from Manchester City in 2005, but is adamant that his future lies at Stamford Bridge.
"I know I'm happy here, and everybody wants me here. What everybody talks about is their own problem," he said.
"Training with the lads here doesn't give you anything but confidence and all I have to do is take it on to a big stage like I did against Sofia.
"The players, my family and friends have always believed in me when times have been tough and that also goes for the supporters.
"They have always been right behind me and that's why I clapped them after I score to let them know it was for them."
Wright-Phillips - whose lack of first-team action cost him a place in England's World Cup squad in the summer - has been linked with a £10million move across London to West Ham United in January.
