Nicolas Anelka to open contract talks with Chelsea

Anelka, who has played for five clubs in the last seven years, looks to have settled in west London, and the management at Chelsea are eager to reward his solid form. The France striker scored 19 goals in the Premier League last season, and has been partnered with Didier Drogba in Chelsea's pre-season games. Drogba and Malouda agreed on new contracts during the close-season, and Anelka, who has two years left to run on his deal, looks like being the next in line. His agent, Doug Pingisi, told Sky Sports: "I think we will be having talks with Chelsea next week about Nicolas' contract. "Nicolas has two years left on his present contract and I think Chelsea would like to extend it. "We plan to sit down and have talks with Chelsea about Nicolas' future." Chelsea begin their Premier League campaign on Saturday at home to Hull in the first game of the new season, and their first game under new coach, Carlo Ancelotti. They travel north-east to Sunderland, before facing west London rivals Fulham in a derby match at Craven Cottage on Sunday Aug 23.
