05 April 2009 20:11
One down, seven to go and if Alan Shearer didn't know it already, he will need more than a wave of his Geordie fist to rescue Newcastle United from the drop. From the first to the 90th minute, the new Newcastle manager saw at closer hand than ever the limitations of the squad he has inherited from Joe Kinnear, Kevin Keegan and/or Dennis Wise. Shearer watched the programme with a beer and some discomfort on Saturday night after turning his back on both to try to rescue his beloved club. And as he knew all along, he faces a near-impossible task which has just got even harder.
