Mutu unable to pay fine

Adrian Mutu has admitted that he does not have the financial capability to pay compensation to Chelsea. The Fiorentina striker has been ordered to pay the Blues £14.6million for breach of contract by the Court of Arbitration for Sport. The fine relates to Mutu's controversial exit from Stamford Bridge in 2004 after he tested positive for cocaine. His contract with Chelsea was terminated and he was banned from playing for seven months. He went on to sign for Juventus while still suspended and his former employers sought compensation for the transfer fee they had paid Parma to land his services in the summer of 2003. However, Romania international Mutu insists he is unable to pay the fine and has revealed that he is in talks with his lawyer in an effort to find a solution to the problematic issue. "I have to respect all the decisions which have been made, but I simply don't have that amount of money," the 30-year-old was quoted as saying by Football Italia. "It's an enormous figure and I think that there are only four or five players in the world who have that kind of cash available to them." He added: "I am talking to my lawyers and we hope to reach a compromise. "Nevertheless, I thank the city of Florence for its support as I'm now aware that I'm not alone in this battle."
