Mourinho: I'm already special

Jose Mourinho says people are too preoccupied about him and railed against the popular opinion that an unprecedented third Champions League title with a third club is his motivation.

For all the trophies Mourinho has won at Chelsea, the European Cup he lifted with Porto in 2004 and Inter Milan in 2010 has remained elusive.

Chelsea exited the Champions League on away goals to Paris St Germain on Wednesday and on Sunday resume their bid for a first Premier League title in five years at home to Southampton.

Carlo Ancelotti (AC Milan, two, and Real Madrid, one) and Bob Paisley (Liverpool, three) have won the European Cup three times, but Mourinho is bidding to stand alone as the only boss to have won club football's biggest honour with three clubs.

Asked about the unique distinction being his driving force, Mourinho said: "It's wrong. I think people worry about me too much, (more) than they should. They don't know what my happiness is."

Mourinho then listed reasons why he should already be considered a great manager.

He said: "My happiness first of all is when I compare myself with the others, I see just a few that are with me in terms of success and the others I see a huge difference, a huge distance.

"I have lots of respect for all of them, but in the Premier League, who is European champion? Me and (Manchester United boss Louis) van Gaal.

"In the Premier League how many won the Premier League twice or more than twice? Mr Wenger (Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger) and myself.

"How many won every competition in this country? Community Shield, Capital Cup, Carling Cup, FA Cup, Premier League? How many?

"You go to Europe, how many won seven league titles? How many won two Champions Leagues? Ancelotti won three. Van Gaal, two. And Pep (Guardiola, the Bayern Munich boss), two.

"I'm not content with that, but you are too much worried about myself.

"What makes me feel special is that I am above all of this. You think I care about some bull**** I read? Do you think I care? I don't care. I don't care."

Mourinho was reluctant to relive the exit to PSG after a 2-2 last-16 second leg draw saw the Blues dumped out on away goals.

Now his focus is on delivering Chelsea's first Premier League title since 2010, when Ancelotti was in charge at Stamford Bridge.

"With Chelsea I lost with Barcelona in the last 16 and we were champions that season and it was a fantastic season for us," Mourinho said.

Chelsea, out of the FA Cup, winners of the Capital One Cup and out of Europe, now have a sole focus: winning the Premier League.

The Blues entered the weekend five points better off than Manchester City with a game in-hand, with nine victories and an unassailable lead the target for Mourinho.

"We have to focus on nine victories," Mourinho said.

"If our direct opponents lose a couple of points, then you need eight victories and one draw, or something like that."

He has told his players to focus only on themselves.

"When it's the first time they can feel a bit anxious," Mourinho said.

"Instead of waiting for the Premier League to arrive, you know that you have to chase.

"In this moment we have enough fingers (to count down the wins). We will arrive in a moment when one hand will be enough: we need five victories, we need four victories.

"This is a good way to do it. Don't think about Man City, don't think about Arsenal, don't think about their results. Just us.

"I think everybody knows what it takes. (The players) that have the experience of that before, the other ones know what it takes. We are ready, no doubts."

Mourinho conceded defeat in last season's title race after a loss at Crystal Palace almost 12 months ago.

The difference between then and now is simple.

"We are winning lots of these kinds of matches," he said.

"We won at Palace, we won at (Aston) Villa, we won at West Ham, we won at Stoke. "

There has been scrutiny of Chelsea's lack of ruthlessness of late, but Mourinho believes it is a matter of time.

"I don't see many differences between our 5-0 win at Swansea and other matches we played away," said Mourinho, who described Southampton as a "very good" team.

"In one of these games we will score three or four goals."
