Mourinho happy with squad

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho insists he does not need to make further signings this summer despite reports linking the Premier League champions with a move for Everton defender John Stones.

The Blues had a bid reported to be in the region of £20million rebuffed by the Toffees last week, with manager Roberto Martinez criticising the way they handled their approach.

Chelsea were expected to up their offer for Stones but Mourinho shrugged his shoulders and shook his head when asked if Chelsea were preparing an imminent second bid for the 21-year-old England international.

Mourinho was speaking after Chelsea began their US pre-season tour in uninspiring fashion with a 4-2 defeat to the New York Red Bulls but, despite Manchester United, Manchester City and Liverpool all strengthening significantly during the close season, the Portuguese does not envisage any further new arrivals at Stamford Bridge this summer.

"You are speaking with the manager of the best team in England - we don't have fragilities," he told a post-match press conference.

"We don't have fragilities - we are a top team, we have top players.

" We started training six days ago - we did 11 training sessions in six days.

"We don't need other players - we trust these players, these players are good.

"We play 10 times against Red Bull, we win nine but I'm not worried."

Mourinho also refused to criticise goalkeeper Asmir Begovic after he conceded four goals in 45 minutes to endure a nightmare debut for the west London club against the Red Bulls.

Begovic, who joined from Stoke earlier this month, replaced Thibaut Courtois at half-time but could not prevent Sean Davis (twice), Franklin Casetllanos and Tyler Adams from finding the back of the net as the Major League Soccer side earned a memorable victory.

"Begovic in the second half was not sharp in his reactions but it's a consequence of being tired from training," Mourinho told the club's official website.

"I'm so happy to have him and in the next game against PSG he will start. He will play the first half. There's no problem, it's just a process."
