Mourinho defends Cuadrado signing

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho insists new signing Juan Cuadrado is 'not a panic buy'.

'I don't think it's the best thing for him that I speak about expectations,' Mourinho said at today's press conference.

"He needs his time.

"He is not a panic buy. It's a reaction to (Andre) Schurrle's departure."

On Schurrle, Mourinho said: "We are happy with what he gave us. We are happy with the profit we did in this transfer window."

When asked about team news, Mourinho did not mention Diego Costa by name.

"Filipe (Luis) is injured and the player who is suspended is suspended," he said.

Costa was banned for three games for stamping on Liverpool's Emre Can in Chelsea's Capital One Cup semi-final second leg last month.

Mourinho has not spoken to the media since the post-match press conference following that match on January 27. The following day he was also fined £25,000 by the FA over his claims that there was a "campaign" against his club.

When asked about his reasons for not speaking to the media, he said: "Because if you want, you can make a silence very noisy.

"You could make noise with my silence. It depends on you (the journalists).

"If I was a journalist I could make from silence lots of words."

Mourinho said Cesc Fabregas was fit for the match at Aston Villa on Saturday.

When asked why he has never won at Villa, the Chelsea boss replied: "Because the opponents score more goals than us."
