Mourinho adds fuel to the fire as the FA stamp violent conduct charge on Costa

The day that Diego Costa was, rightfully so, charged with violent conduct by the FA, Jose Mourinho has added fuel to the fire by suggesting that the media now has an agenda against Chelsea. The headlines were very clever in regards to the Chelsea striker’s behavior during their Capital One Cup second leg victory, suggesting criminality and such. But, strangely enough, Mourinho placed most of his attention onto Jamie Redknapp, who was rather kind in his assessment of Diego Costa’s actions, calling them, benevolently, “out of order”. These words are quite generous in relation to the clear stamp on Liverpool’s Emre Can. However, Mourinho still had harsh words for the pundits.

“They're killing us again on TV, boss. They're calling Costa a criminal. Redknapp is calling Costa a criminal.”

I’m going to use the word that put me in trouble,” Mourinho said, “but I think this time I cannot be punished to say that there is a ‘campaign’ on the television, with a certain pundit that is saying: ‘Diego Costa crimes.’ This guy must be nuts. The guy that is saying that.”

These words come on the back of the FA having just fined Mourinho for his suggestions that there was a campaign against his Chelsea side in relation to the way that they are treated on and off the pitch. This he say’s is a “new campaign”.

Whatever Mourinho thinks may have happened on the pitch against Liverpool, it is quite clear that Costa is guilty for the stamp on Can. In terms of the second stamp on Martin Skrtel I can understand the debate. However, Costa’s track record is not only not great but also suggestive to say the least. I love a tough, hard-nosed center forward, especially one that plays in England. But, in this case I think that Mourinho should count himself lucky for not missing his talismanic striker for too long previously and for a longer period after the fact.
