After accusing Spurs chairman Daniel Levy of breaking a gentleman’s agreement it looked as though Modric’s career at Spurs was over. Modric has five years left on his £60,000 a week contract but is now prepared to sign a new deal for around £100,000 per week.
The saga involving Chelsea and Modric rumbled on throughout the summer and was not a welcome distraction for either club. Modric has since started to return to top form after a poor start to the season.
