Misfiring Torres has a future at Chelsea, claims Mourinho

After insulating in mid-week that Fernando Torres was not a "real striker", Jose Mourinho insisted the Spanish forward still has a future at Stamford Bridge.

Mourinho was highly critical in Paris, frustrated with his striker shortage and claimed he needed "real strikers" in the squad as PSG's riches in attacking options sparked envy in the Portuguese boss. However, a change of heart has swayed Mourinho to praise Torres's work ethic and reveal his respect for the striker.

Questioned on the Spaniard's future, Mourinho responded - "Yes, he has a future here. If you want to improve, I think that normal and basic"

"He works hard, he brings things to the team, but we want him to score more goals. He wants too.

"I think during his period in the club he had moments (of his best) and some of them important" Mourinho added

"I respect him, he's the kind of player who deserves to be respected" the Blues boss concluded.

His remarks will diffuse growing speculation over a potential summer move to Inter Milan and a return to La Liga club Atletico Madrid for the 29 year-old after rumours intensified following recent woeful displays.

Mourinho commented on fellow striker Samuel Eto'o, refusing to set a date on the Cameroonian's return from a hamstring injury sustained during the 6-0 mauling of Arsenal last month. Regarding team news, the manager also confirmed Ashley Cole's return from a troublesome knee problem and Mikel's unavailability through injury.
