AC Milan have moved to quash speculation linking Andriy Shevchenko with a return to the club from Chelsea.

The Ukraine striker swapped the San Siro for Stamford Bridge in a £30million summer transfer, but has struggled to find his feet in the Premiership.

Shevchenko's problems at Chelsea, coupled with the fact he is scheduled to be in Italy for a Euro 2008 qualifier on Saturday, have led to rumours that he is ready to head back to the Rossoneri in January.

However, Milan's vice-president Adriano Galliani said: "It's useless to feed any false hopes.

"He is a Chelsea player and will finish his sporting career there.

"We will keep the marvellous memory of his seven years with us and his 175 goals."

Shevchenko is currently recovering from a virus and is rated as doubtful for Ukraine's game in Rome on Saturday.
