Mikel to pen new Blues deal

John Obi Mikel's agent has revealed that the Nigeria international has agreed a new five-year contract with Chelsea.

The 22-year-old was linked with a transfer to Internazionale earlier this year but is now prepared to commit his long-term future to last term's FA Cup winners.

His agent, John Shittu, told the London Evening Standard: "He will sign the deal early this week.

"Some of the club officials were away but they were expected back last weekend. As soon as everybody is in, we will sign the new contract.

"It is a very good deal for him and would put him on a par with some of the top earners at the club."

Mikel only had 12 months remaining on his previous Stamford Bridge contract.

Chelsea have already secured Florent Malouda on a new contract this summer and Ashley Cole, Didier Drogba, Joe Cole and Alex are expected to follow suit soon.

The Blues are scheduled to leave for their pre-season tour to the USA next Thursday.
