Mikel seeking Blues comfort
11 Jul 2010 - 10:25:43
John Obi Mikel is hoping to make up for his World Cup heartbreak by helping Chelsea win more silverware next season.
The Nigeria international was a late withdrawal from the World Cup in South Africa after failing to recover from ankle and knee injuries picked up during the closing weeks of the domestic campaign.
The Super Eagles fell at the first hurdle after failing to qualify from Group B, which also contained Argentina, South Korea and Greece.
The 23-year-old made 35 appearances for the Blues as they won a Premier League and FA Cup Double last season.
Mikel has returned to pre-season training with his team-mates this week and is already focused on more success when the new campaign begins in August.
"It was really frustrating to miss out but at the same time I was obviously happy that we won the Double," he told the club's official website.
"Since I came home from South Africa I've been here, working hard on my knee and making sure I am ready for the start of the season.
"I'm fully involved now with pre-season training and have started the double sessions.
"It is going really well, the training is good and the weather has been fantastic, and we are all working hard.
"I look forward to the rest of the squad joining us and I hope it can be another good season."
