Mancienne eager to impress
Michael Mancienne is keen to impress new Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti with his displays at the European Under-21 Championship. Mancienne is a key member of Stuart Pearce's squad who are in Sweden targeting silverware at this summer's finals. The young centre-back, who enjoyed a successful loan spell with Wolves last season, is keen to break into the Blues' first team, but knows he may have to be patient. "I would like to see what happens in pre-season," said Mancienne, ahead of travelling to Sweden with England Under-21s for the finals. Impress "I (would) want to play well in the tournament even if there wasn't a new manager. Obviously having a new manager you have to impress so it is important to me. "I just want to take it as it comes over the next year and try to break into the Chelsea team. If I don't I'll see what happens. I'll have to see what happens from there." Ancelotti will start with John Terry, Ricardo Carvalho, Alex, Branislav Ivanovic and Mancienne as the centre-backs at his disposal when he starts work in London. "We have a lot of world-class players in front of me so it's a case of patience," Mancienne said. Experience There could be a host of clubs willing to take Mancienne on loan if he was available, after a successful stint at Wolves between October and January. "I was meant to go back there but Chelsea didn't allow it," Mancienne said. "It gave me a massive confidence boost playing week-in week-out, playing well and in a team that likes to play. "I would love to be playing more games but I had a lot of good experiences. I was on the bench for the Champions League semi-final so I did gain a lot of experience."
