Manchester City v Chelsea: Match Preview - The Sky Blues or the Blues?

22 February 2013 10:54

Following the tight race in the battle for second position in the premier league, two big rivals are meeting again this coming weekend. The spectators will take their seats expecting the best out of their respective teams.

The big question is: will the Blues increase their chances of taking second place in the premier league, or will City hold off their challenge and increase their chances of retaining the Premier League title?.

In respect to the recent stats, the Blues have won ten out of their last twelve away games compared to City who have lost the last three.

Manchester City have only won once in the last four meetings against Chelsea which brings us to the fact that Man City have the lowest average points  (0.87) for each game played against Chelsea in their last four matches.

Key men to watch include Frank Lampard and Edin Dzeko.

Lampard has scored eleven goals in thirteen appearances for Chelsea this season scoring four in consecutive games in the Premier League. He has done this twice, in 2005 and 2010.

Dzeko in reply has scored six goals in seven appearances. City have not gone four games without a win in the premier league since November 2009 when Roberto Mancini took over City’s managerial seat from Mark Hughes after experiencing a run of seven continual draws.

The latest stats on these two teams tell us that Man City are likely to have better results over the Blues, however Mancini needs to be on his toes following the quality in the Blues side.

Players to watch include:

Chelsea - Frank Lampard, Juan Mata, Eden Hazard and Victor Moses

Manchester City - Edin Dzeko, Sergio Agüero and Yaya Toure
