Manchester City boss Hughes plans a raid for Chelsea's Drogba

Manchester City boss Mark Hughes will make a £20 million move for Chelsea striker Didier Drogba if the controversial striker decides toquit Stamford Bridge after next Saturday's FA Cup final. Hughes has made an old-fashioned striker his top priority and isclosely monitoring Drogba's situation in London after cooling hisinterest in January target, Blackburn's Roque Santa Cruz. Drogba, 31, became a cult hero with Chelsea fans after winning two league titles under Jose Mourinho, but owner Roman Abramovich has become increasingly impatient with the player. Last week, the Ivory Coast striker was charged with making offensive remarks to referee Tom Henning Ovrebo after Chelsea's dramatic Champions League semi-final defeat against Barcelona. He faces a five-match European ban for swearing into TV microphones and that could help City's bid to sign him, as Inter Milan's former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho will be discouraged from spending money on a player who cannot take part in next season's Champions League group games. City are planning a clear-out, with Danny Mills, Darius Vassell, Michael Ball and Didi Hamann all to be released.
