Real Madrid want to build their defence around Manchester United rock Nemanja Vidic. [LNB]The Spanish giants are ready to test Sir Alex Ferguson's resolve by trying to lure Vidic to the Bernabeu along with his Serbia team-mate Branislav Ivanovic from Chelsea. [LNB]Madrid want to add one more forward to the team in 2010, with Atletico Madrid's Sergio Aguero topping of a short list of three ahead of Valencia's David Villa and United's Wayne Rooney. [LNB] First choice: Vidic (right) is the man Real Madrid want to marshall the defence[LNB]But the main emphasis for the next phase of spending will focus on making Madrid's defence as tight as Barcelona. [LNB]Madrid have conceded 13 goals in 15 La Liga games, while Barca have shipped just nine in as many outings. [LNB]Vidic is in no hurry to discuss an extension to his contract at Old Trafford, which runs to 2012, and it is suggested that he and his wife Ana are keen on a move to a warmer country. [LNB]Speculation: Kjaer has been linked to United[LNB]United will not want to risk losing Vidic for nothing by allowing his £70,000-a-week contract run down, so may have to consider serious offers. [LNB]It is unlikely he would be allowed to move in January, especially given United's shortages at the back, but Madrid need to replace Portugal defender Pepe, who is unlikely to play again this season after suffering a knee injury. [LNB]Spanish newspaper Marca claims that Ferguson has already lined up Porto's Bruno Alves as a replacement. The imposing 28-year-old centre-half is a regular for Portugal. [LNB]Palermo's 20-year-old Denmark international Simon Kjaer is also on United's radar. [LNB]Chelsea are trying to see off Madrid's interest in Ivanovic by offering the 25-year-old a contract extension at Stamford Bridge.  [LNB] Fergie relishing title push as Man United's defensive worries start to easeUnited place Van der Sar on indefinite compassionate leave to stay with sick wifeJAMIE REDKNAPP: Ruthless United and Arsenal wait like cobras then strike Rooney fired up by fear of Fergie as he helps Manchester United strike backMancini dismisses talk of Palermo's star defender Kjaer joining CityBlackburn join Manchester United in the race to prise Marseille star Ben ArfaMANCHESTER UNITED FC
