Lippi backs Pirlo switch

Italy coach Marcello Lippi has given Andrea Pirlo his blessing over a mooted transfer to Chelsea. The 30-year-old has been linked with a £20million move to Stamford Bridge to again link-up with former Milan manager Carlo Ancelotti. Although Lippi has gone on record in the past week declaring that he would prefer it if his star players remained in Serie A, he insists he would have no problem if his World Cup winning midfielder moved to England. The former Inter Milan ace played 26 league games last season as the Rossoneri finished third but the Italian international may opt for a fresh challenge in the Premier League after two trophy-less seasons at the San Siro. "It wouldn't be a problem, regardless of where he plays," Lippi said. "A flight from London to Rome is like a flight from Milan to Rome."
