Lampard won't give up on title
02 Mar 2009 - 13:53:50
Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard still believes the Blues can win this season's Premier League title.
Guus Hiddink's side moved to within seven points of Sir Alex Ferguson's in-form Manchester United team with a 2-1 victory against Wigan Athletic on Saturday, thanks to Lampard's stoppage-time winner.
Even though United still have a game in hand on Chelsea, Lampard is refusing to give up hope of clinching a third title in five seasons.
The former West Ham United star told the London Evening Standard: "We closed the gap last year and only fell a little bit short, so we know the gap can close.
"Considering the crisis everyone says we're having this season, we're still in second position. I know we're a fair distance behind Manchester United, but we'll keep going.
"There are a lot of points still available, although to be fair to Manchester United they've been on a fantastic run, but whether that will keep going I don't know.
"We have to believe it might not, worry about ourselves and keep getting as many points as possible. They could feel the pressure like they did last year when we were chasing them. You never know what can happen.
"They can't go on winning forever, one day they might start getting some penalty decisions against them at home. The luck can change and do so very quickly."
