Lampard could face Reds
08 Feb 2008 - 14:48:17
Chelsea manager Avram Grant has revealed that Frank Lampard could make his return from injury against Liverpool on Sunday.
The England midfielder has been out of action since tearing a thigh muscle in the 4-4 Boxing Day draw with Aston Villa.
But after sitting out the last ten games, the 29-year-old will be considered for selection by Grant for the visit of the fifth-placed Merseysiders to Stamford Bridge.
"He trained today, trained yesterday, he's feeling better but we will decide about this tomorrow," revealed the Israeli coach at his pre-match press briefing.
"I think he will be available for the weekend."
Ironically, Lampard's last goal for the Blues came in a 2-0 Carling Cup quarter-final victory over Liverpool on December 19.
The goalscoring midfielder was also on the mark in a 1-1 draw with the Reds in the first league meeting between the sides in August.
Lampard converted a controversial second-half penalty at Anfield after referee Rob Styles incorrectly ruled Florent Malouda had been fouled in the box.
Afterwards, a furious Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez claimed: "That decision is impossible to explain, it was the invisible penalty."
