Lampard - Cup win is crucial

Frank Lampard is desperate to get his hands on the FA Cup and avoid ending another season empty-handed. The Blues came close to landing a remarkable Treble last term, only to fall narrowly short on each occasion, and have suffered similar heartache this time around. They never really got going in the Premier League title race, with Manchester United and Liverpool dominating that battle, while they also fell at the semi-final stage of the UEFA Champions League in controversial circumstances against Barcelona. That means next Saturday's FA Cup final against Everton provides them with their last opportunity to take something from a season which has promised much, but delivered little. Lampard knows that success at Wembley is imperative to the men from Stamford Bridge, while the England international is also keen to give interim coach Guus Hiddink a lasting memento of his time in England. "A season without silverware is seen as a failure and that's pretty well right, if you look at the quality of the squad here," he said. "We'd love to leave him (Hiddink) with a trophy as a thank you. "We all feel the same about that. We've been a very tight-knit group since he came in. The man has been a pleasure, not just as a manager but as a person." ContinuityHiddink is set to walk away from Chelsea over the summer at the end of his short-term deal. AC Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti is the hot favourite to replace him, and Lampard admits he expects the Italian to be on his way to the Premier League. "I expect it [Ancelotti's appointment] as much as you," he added. "There will be continuity here whatever happens, I hope. "It's important that players get the hump United won the league and that we're not in the Champions League final, and make sure we put it right. "Whatever decision the owner makes, let's hope it works. If it doesn't, the club are within their rights to make it work."
