Lampard - Blues need an edge

Frank Lampard believes Chelsea are in need of a summer spending spree to regain an 'edge' in the pursuit of silverware. The Blues won the FA Cup this season, but the priority is the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League, an aim which has seen Carlo Ancelotti appointed as boss. Ancelotti's arrival, and Roman Abramovich's apparent willingness to return to the big-money, early days of his ownership, has seen Chelsea linked with a host of star names. And Lampard would welcome the signings of the likes of Bayern Munich's Franck Ribery and Valencia's David Villa. Strong squad "Looking at us this season, we've got a strong squad and good players but maybe we do need a little edge," the England midfielder said in the Guardian. "That's what John (Terry) is saying when he mentions Ribery and Villa. "We need maybe that edge, someone who can produce something for us, as a wide man or a creative midfield player, and someone as a striker who can work with (Didier) Drogba or (Nicolas) Anelka. "We want to push on again. It's up to the club to decide, and to what level we are going to add to the squad and make it better, but it seems our intentions are to really push on this summer and add that couple of players who can make us really top drawer. "Those two players (Ribery and Villa) are fantastic players. Any team would want them."
