Kenyon: Jose won't be sacked

20 Apr 2007 - 15:49:30

Chelsea chief executive Peter Kenyon insists the club has no intention of sacking Jose Mourinho whatever happens this season.

Mourinho's future at Stamford Bridge has been the subject of much speculation amid claims that the Portuguese coach had fallen out with AS Roman Abramovich was was not on speaking terms with the Blues owner.

Before declaring his desire to see out his contract and stay until 2010 earlier this month, the former Porto coach himself had done little to ease the rumours.

But whatever happens in the final few weeks of this season, Kenyon has denied claims that Mourinho will be forced out by the board this summer.

"Jose has a contract to 2010 and he wants to stay. We are not going to sack him, he has the club's support. That's the situation and we are agreed on it," he told Chelsea TV

"Whatever you have read or heard, no lists of candidates have been drawn up, no one has been offered the job. So let's put that to bed straight away.

"As far as we are all concerned, what is most important is that it is business as usual at Chelsea and putting all our energy into winning the three remaining trophies."

Meanwhile, Kenyon has moved to play down reported rifts with key duo John Terry and Frank Lampard, who have yet to agree terms on new contracts to remain at Stamford Bridge in the long-term.

"Every contract is unique, no two contracts are the same. Michael Essien, Wayne Bridge and Didier Drogba have all signed new deals. That's fantastic news for the future of Chelsea," he continued.

"John Terry and Frank Lampard are not yet completed. That's football.

"What's important to remember about contract speculation is that there are only two definitive stages, when the discussions start and when they end - either with an agreement or with no agreement.

"And at the moment we are in between those situations."
