Jose tips Lampard to stay
10 Aug 2007 - 17:43:38
Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho believes the long-running saga over Frank Lampard's new contract will end with the England international penning a new Stamford Bridge deal.
The midfielder had admitted that talks were on hold because there had been problems with the negotiations, but Mourinho is in an ebullient mood about the final outcome.
He told the Blues' official website: "Lampard is top. For me there is no problem and I am very confident about the long-term future too because he wants to stay and the club want him to stay.
"I think one day they will arrive at a conclusion.
"I think Lamps himself has the positive influence of his father because his sports education is brilliant. The way he works, the way he concentrates on his work, I think his father has a very good influence on him and he is a top professional.
"I don't see one single difference between the Lampard I met three years ago with five years of contract and the Lampard I have now with 22 months of contract.
"He works the same, he plays the same, he has the same motivation, concentration and commitment.
"Now I want him to stay for more than the two years. The club want him to stay for more than the two years, he wants to stay for more than two years so I think the natural tendency is one day they will agree a contract and they have 22 months to discuss that and arrive in an agreement."
