Jose loathe to pay crazy fees
03 Jan 2007 - 09:14:09
Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has criticised English clubs for putting unrealistic price tags on their players as he struggles to strengthen his injury-ravaged squad.
The Blues boss is keen to bring at least one defender to Stamford Bridge this month as his side's title hopes stutter after three successive draws.
Mourinho is currently without Petr Cech, Carlo Cudicini, Arjen Robben, Joe Cole and John Terry, and has been linked with a move for Manchester City's Micah Richards.
Mourinho joked he would rather play his 55-year-old assistant Baltemar Brito than pay an inflated fee for a new player, saying: "Just because of the smell that Chelsea needs a central defender has people thinking we are stupid.
"With the reality of the English market I prefer to play with Brito than pay the crazy money.
"I would love an Aston Martin but if you ask me for £1million for an Aston Martin, I tell you, you are crazy because they cost £250,000."
