Jose Mourinho has said he expects his return to Chelsea as manager to be confirmed later this week.

The Portuguese took charge of Real Madrid for the final time on Saturday after a three-year spell in charge and will fly to London on Monday to finalise the deal.

"I cannot speak as manager of Chelsea because I am not. I am going to London and between Monday and the end of the week I will be coach of Chelsea," he told Spanish television programme Punto Pelota in an interview released on Monday.

"I expect to be the next coach of Chelsea. I would like to be it because I was happy in London and I feel that the people love me there.

"Life is beautiful and short and in life you have to look for what you think is best for you."

The 50-year-old enjoyed a successful time in charge of Chelsea between 2004 and 2007 as he ended the club's 50-year wait for a league title by winning back-to-back Premier League crowns in 2005 and 2006.

However, Mourinho failed to deliver Russian owner Roman Abramovich the Champions League that he most coveted and after semi-final exits to Liverpool in 2005 and 2007, they parted ways after a disappointing 1-1 draw at home to Rosenborg in September 2007.
