Job done, trophy won, back to business for Chelsea

It has taken a bit of a while for Chelsea to win a trophy after Jose Mourinho's second coming as expectation has been mounting given the calibre of the team and the quality of the manager. In the end it was just a mildly entertaining performance with goals at the right times to efficiently put Spurs to the sword.

The victory was well celebrated as the first triumph in England for Cesc Fabregas and Diego Costa though their individual displays weren't quite as good as they can be. In the midst of all the jubilation and especially considering Manchester City’s fall at the hands of Liverpool it seems as if the real stuff is yet to come. With no disrespect levelled against the Capital One Cup, this was probably a fixture to just get off the schedule. Chelsea now have an opportunity to stretch their lead at the top to 8 points with just 11 games to go. Also pending is the second leg of the Champions League last 16 against PSG which sadly is evenly poised. With Chelsea and Everton looking like the only English clubs to still survive in European competitions this season there is an added incentive to progress so as to maintain England’s rather healthy UEFA coefficient which is very much under risk.

So with one trophy already won, it certainly looks like even more is to be done to actually call this season a successful one. Even the team’s form this season is deserving of even more. English hopes for European glory lie squarely on Chelsea and Jose Mourinho will be telling his troop to look only forward henceforth.

Nonetheless, the Wembley triumph gives fans something to smile about especially after the turbulence in recent times.
