January signings: five players who could make a big impact

03 February 2015 09:42

The January transfer window shut last night at 11pm and it has to be said it was not the most busy or high profile window ever.

However I thought I would look at some signings that were made this window and the big impact they could make on their team’s remainder of the season.

Juan Cuadrado - He signed for Chelsea on deadline day for £23.3M and the pacey winger will provide another option to Jose Mourinho’s abundance of attacking options already at Stamford Bridge. The Colombian international is renowned for his high work rate and dribbling. He creates lots of chances for teammates to score and just adds to an already world class squad at Chelsea who are looking to win a treble still this season.

Jermaine Defoe - The clinical striker has returned to England after a spell playing in the MLS for Toronto, he could make a big difference in Sunderland’s fight to stay up he has scored goals every club he has been at and certainly is deadly in the penalty area. He could provide ‘The Black Cats’ with some key goals and will definitely add to their firepower in a season where they have only got 21 goals in 23 league games so far. He has already opened his account scoring in Saturday’s 2-0 win over Burnley.

Carles Gil - The Spaniard has been bought from Valencia for £3.25M to try and provide some vital creativity and flair to a Villa side which has been desperately lacking both so far this season. The midfielder who can play behind the strikers or on the wings has looked good so far in his 3 appearances for the Villains scoring 1 goal in the FA Cup. Villa like Sunderland are lacking goals having only scored an embarrassing 11 goals in 23 league games.

Andrej Kramaric - The Croatian striker was bought by Leicester for £9M and certainly has a great scoring record at his previous clubs scoring 99 goals in 180 club appearances. The Foxes will be hoping he can bolster their attack and live up to his big reputation. It was rumoured Chelsea were in for him but Leicester beat them to his signature and it certainly looks like he can make a immediate impact and be one for the future too as he is only 23.

Robert Huth - Another signing for newly promoted and currently bottom of the table Leicester, they have brought in Robert Huth from Stoke on a loan deal to the end of the season. Nigel Pearson will be hoping he can bring solidity and leadership to a leaky defence who have let in 3rd most goals in the Prem so far. The big German showed in his time at Stoke he is a good defender and if he can replicate some of that form at The King Power Stadium then he will be a good addition.

So will these signings make a big impact at their new clubs? Or will other signings make more of an impact than these?
