Is this Porto star a better alternative than Falcao for Chelsea?

January, the first month of the New Year - a month for the high street sales.

January also sees the transfer window open, Chelsea Jose Mourinho will be looking get his own bargain in the form of a striker.

With Demba Ba, Samuel Eto'o and Fernando Torres scoring a measly nine goals between them this season, and the latter two struggling with injuries, Chelsea are in definite need of a striker come January.

Radamel Falcao is the name on everyone's lips, the Columbian, who only signed for Monaco in the summer, he is reportedely unhappy out in France. The 27 year old was recently disgusted at manager Claudio Ranieri's decision to haul him off after 63 minutes in the 1-0 away win at Nantes.

Falcaos performance of late have been off-par after a roaring start to the season, and it has to be asked, is he worth the £60,000,000 thats being quoted as a price Chelsea will play?

Portos Jackson Martinez, also 27, and a fellow countryman of Falcao has been seen as a viable alternative.

According the the Express - Chelsea are 'close' to a deal for Martinez as his agent has travelled to London for talks with blues chiefs. The fee reported if the deals goes through will be £33,000,000.

Since arriving in Porto in August last year, Martinez has found the net 34 times in 40 league appearances - 10 coming in 15 games this season, making him one of Europes hottest properties.

A cheaper alternative to Falcao - is he a better alternative? Mourinho certainly needs a new striker to carry Chelseas goalscoring burden.
