Is David Luiz the man to sort out Barcelona’s defensive problems?

The Catalan giants think £40M is enough to lure the Brazilian to the Nou Camp in an attempt to revamp their back-line, following a humiliating 7-0 aggregate defeat to Bayern Munich earlier on this week.

Barca have been eyeing-up the versatile Chelsea defender for some time. A £35M bid last season was considered, but they changed their mind and moved on to other targets.

Finding a top-class player to partner up with Gerard Pique is Barca’s main priority. A failed attempt at converting Alex Song and Javier Mascherano into centre-backs has boosted their determination to get the right man.

Luiz has significantly improved since last season, Barca have been impressed by his maturity since Rafa Benitez took charge. There’s an uncertainty surrounding whom Chelsea’s next boss will be, and now could be the perfect time for Barca to take their interest further in hope it unsettles the Brazil international.

Is David Luiz really worth £40M?
