Inter Milan on Thursday officially announced the appointment of Claudio Ranieri as their new coach, a day after predecessor Gian Piero Gasperini was fired.

The 59-year-old has signed a two-year deal, tying him down until the end of June 2013.

Ranieri's appointment had been announced on Wednesday night by the Itlian press and the former Juventus and Chelsea coach himself spoke of his new role on a TV programme that aired in the early hours of Thursday morning.

"Everyone at Inter Milan has the pleasure to welcome Claudio Ranieri and his staff and wish them well," said an Inter statement.
