I'll stand by you! Sbragia backs underfire Ferdinand ahead of Chelsea showdown

Sunderland manager Ricky Sbragia will stick with under-fire defender Anton Ferdinand for the visit of Chelsea today. But the Black Cats boss admits the £8million signing from West Ham owes the Stadium of Light faithful a faultless performance. Ferdinand, who has the unenviable task of marking Didier Drogba and Niclas Anelka, made the horrendous error which gifted Portsmouth a second goal at Fratton Park on Monday night. It is not the first mistake the brother of Rio has made since his switch from Upton Park last August. Nevertheless, Sbragia, who is pondering whether to recall George McCartney for Chelsea's visit, expects Ferdinand to bounce back from Monday's awful 3-1 defeat. He said: 'He's got to get that out of his head straight away. He understands he's made a terrible mistake.
