Hiddink - Progress was deserved

Guus Hiddink believes his Chelsea side are worthy recipients of a UEFA Champions League quarter-final spot.[LNB] The Blues edged into the last eight of Europe's premier club competition after seeing off Italian giants Juventus.[LNB]Defending a 1-0 lead heading to Turin, the Blues made hard work of an enthralling contest at Stadio Olimpico.[LNB]They eventually emerged with a 2-2 draw, enough to book their safe passage through to the next round.[LNB]While Chelsea were far from their best in midweek, Hiddink insists they still deserve to remain on the road to Rome.[LNB]"Sure we started in a bad way and we defended in a poor way for the first goal," the Dutchman told Sky Italia.[LNB]"The goal scored in the first leg has been decisive. I think Chelsea deserved to go forward. Mathematics say a win and a draw is enough. [LNB]"The way we managed the game in the second half was good, so I think we deserved this result. [LNB]"We expected Juve to give us a hard game, because they needed to recover the result. [LNB]"I can't compare things to what happened before my arrival, but I have tried to lift the spirit of this side and we are doing well."[LNB]RegretMeanwhile, Juventus boss Claudio Ranieri was disappointed to fall at the hands of his former employers.[LNB]"I think not scoring at Stamford Bridge made a big difference," he said.[LNB]"A draw has been like a cold shower for us. But this is football. [LNB]"We started positively. My guys did everything they could. We were on top in the game even when we went down to 10 men (following Giorgio Chiellini's dismissal). We can't ask for any more from this side. [LNB]"We are really sorry to exit the Champions League, we knew we had to face a big side like Chelsea. It's a pity, but we will try again next season. [LNB]"I have nothing to say to my strikers, they did the best they could. We were facing Chelsea who lost the final last season at penalties. [LNB]"The only regret, I repeat, is not to have scored in London."[LNB]
