Hiddink calls for video aid

Chelsea manager Guus Hiddink believes his team would be contesting the UEFA Champions League final if video technology was used in the game.[LNB] The Blues crashed out of the competition in spectacular fashion to Barcelona on the away goals rule courtesy of Andres Iniesta's last-gasp winner.[LNB]Michael Essien's stunning volley had looked destined to set up a meeting with Manchester United in Rome before 10-man Barca struck at the death.[LNB]Chelsea feel they were denied a number of possible game-clinching penalties in the game by referee Tom Henning Ovrebo that ultimately proved crucial in their fate.[LNB]Hiddink has seen sports such as NFL and rugby league successfully adopt video technology and he feels referees should be given assistance for crucial decisions.[LNB]Vital moments"In other sports like rugby and American football they have the ability to use technology at vital moments," he said. "Everyone wait five seconds for the video referee before making a decision. [LNB]"It can be done only on key moments that make a difference to the outcome of the game otherwise it would stop the game too much. The video referee must have authority to overrule the first man in charge. [LNB]"In rugby and American football when the video decision is made, that's the decision. It's a fact that if technology had been in use we would be in the Champions League final now.[LNB]"It would help a lot what is a difficult job for the referee when they have to make crucial decisions. It's up to Uefa whether they act."[LNB]No problemDidier Drogba's antics at the full-time whistle did little to enhance his popularity among non-Chelsea fans, although Hiddink has never had a problem with the Ivory Coast star during his tenure at Stamford Bridge.[LNB]"Didier has been playing very well. From the moment we started working together he worked hard in training," he continued.[LNB]"He had a good influence on the team. I can be very satisfied with his performances but neither of us are happy with the way he over-reacted after the game.[LNB]"Before that happened he was perfect - he has been easy to work with. We had no problems or arguments, big or small."[LNB]
