Hiddink blasts 'sloppy' Blues

Guus Hiddink criticised Chelsea's sloppy defending against Spurs as they missed a great opportunity to close the gap in the Premier League title race.[LNB] With Manchester United losing at Fulham, Hiddink's men failed to take advantage to go down to Luka Modric's 50th minute goal at White Hart Lane.[LNB]Although they pressured Tottenham late on, the Dutchman felt his side paid the price for trying to play pretty football in their own penalty area early in the second half.[LNB]And they were punished when Jose Bosingwa's attempt to play himself out of trouble was eventually seized on by Aaron Lennon to cross for Modric's winner.[LNB]"It was the ideal opportunity to get closer to Man Utd but at the key moments of the game we were very sloppy," said Hiddink.[LNB]"We talked about it at half-time that they would come in the first 10 minutes (of the second half) but afterwards we were very sloppy.[LNB]"It is frustrating but the way we lost our way in the 10 minutes after the break must be a huge lesson for us not to go that way in the FA Cup and the Champions League.[LNB]"Sometimes you must kick away the ball when you are pressured which we didn't; we tried to get a beautiful solution near our own box. There are some moments in the game when you have to read the game and give it a long ball - even into the stands."[LNB]In spite of the defeat, Hiddink refused to throw the towel in on Chelsea's title hopes but admits it will be tough.[LNB]The Blues are four points behind the champions but Sir Alex Ferguson's men also have a game in hand.[LNB]"It is not over but they (Manchester United) have a game in hand and these are those key moment when Man U are losing that we cannot afford to lose two points or three points when you are chasing because you are coming up to the end of the season," he said.[LNB]"Let's be honest: today was the ideal moment and when you don't take these ideal moments we have to blame ourselves."[LNB]
