Have Chelsea, Benitez and Fernando Torres Turned A Corner?

With Chelsea's convincing, albeit surprising 6-1 drubbing over FC Nordsjaelland, you'd be forgiven for thinking that Chelsea Football Club have finally turned a corner under the tenure of Rafael Benitez.

Although they were knocked out of Europe, the club still have plenty to play for in the Europa League this season. It may not be a trophy that the fans want, nor will it be a trophy that players will be proud of battling for, but it is a competition that Rafael Benitez has won before – which will make Benitez and Chelsea even more hungry for the trophy. It will be far from easy to take Chelsea to the final of the Europa League and win the competitions, but with the possibility of winning the Club World Cup and Europa League, two trophies Rafa has already won – expect Chelsea to be determined to win both tournaments.

Another bonus is that Fernando Torres has proved to us he is still capable of scoring goals for Chelsea. The Spaniard scored a brace against Nordsjaelland and was the best player on for pitch for Chelsea.

Torres produced 10 of Chelsea's 32 shots last night – and it looks like he is beginning to feel comfortable under the guidance of Benitez, something that will be music to all Chelsea fans' ears.

Another bonus Chelsea can take from last nights game is the array of goal-scoring talent the London club have. Gary Cahill and David Luiz each scored a goal against Nordsjaelland and although Luiz's may have been a penalty – it was a striker any centre forward would have been proud of.

Now, we should not get too carried away with this performance from Chelsea. After all, FC Nordsjaelland aren’t exactly Real Madrid or Bayern Munich – still, it will be interesting to watch out for Chelsea and Fernando Torres over the up coming fixtures.

Who knows? This result may be the start of Rafa Benitez's Chelsea – along with the re-birth of the true Fernando Torres.
