Manchester City will be reduced to a super-rich bargaining tool this summer.[LNB]Their vast resources may land them some good players but when it comes to the  best they will not be buying, just being used to up the ante in negotiations.[LNB] [LNB]Hotshot: Samuel Eto'o is entering the final year of his contract[LNB]Take the news that Barcelona are interested in talking to them about Samuel Eto'o. [LNB]He doesn't want to join City, why would he? The striker made it clear in Sportsmail last week how much he enjoys playing in the most fluent attacking  side in the world.[LNB]   More from Hatchet Man... HATCHET MAN: Here's Benitez's biggest test - proving us wrong over his record in the transfer market28/04/09 HATCHET MAN: Forget Messi v Bosingwa, it is Gibbs who is being thrown to the lions28/04/09 HATCHET MAN: Zokora becomes the latest paid-up member of the Tottenham whine society28/04/09 HATCHET MAN: Harry must scrap Cisse swoop as Tottenham boss draws up his summer hitlist27/04/09 HATCHET MAN: Expect the worst as Chelsea deploy Bosingwa to shackle Messi27/04/09 HATCHET MAN: Rooney's rejection is a joke, especially when Anelka nicks his PFA place27/04/09 HATCHET MAN: Villa boss O'Neill misses the target with his friendly fire27/04/09 HATCHET MAN: When Clegg met Keano: I can Truly Seymour Foggy times ahead when the summer whine starts at Portman Road24/04/09 VIEW FULL ARCHIVE The prospect of joining a bunch of wannabes whose best player has struggled  after appearing to sign for the cash will surely only appeal to the most mercenary of the game's most talented or those whose ability has started to wane.[LNB]The situation with Eto'o has arisen because he is moving into the last year of  his contract at the Nou Camp. [LNB]Barcelona probably don't really want to sell him after he crashed in the goals this season, but with no new contract in place they are applying pressure by seeking potential buyers who could afford a huge fee and Eto'o's considerable wages.[LNB]The prospect of having to sign for City might be enough on its own to persuade  the 28-year-old to sign the four-year deal on the table for him at Barcelona. If it is not the Spanish club are likely to have a high starting point in their  hoped for sale auction.[LNB]Chelsea have been here before in the early years of Roman Abramovich's rein, but they looked like they could win things.[LNB]City clearly don't and face a summer of being mentioned in connection with every big transfer negotiation. Just don't expect them to be concluding them.[LNB] [LNB]
