Has Didier Drogba just proven most of Twitter wrong?

There probably wasn’t a single Chelsea fan not delighted by the news of Didier Drogba’s return to Stamford Bridge at the beginning of the season, but the 37-year-old hasn’t exactly shone during the small amount of time he’s spent on the pitch since then.

Until now, that was. Chelsea were losing 1-0 to Leicester at half-time and for the first 45 minutes Drogba could do no right in Twitter’s eyes.

But then, as quickly as you can say Branislav Ivanovic, he scored.

Due to Leicester’s goal coming so late in the first half, and Drogba’s so early in the first – a weird thing happened.

The universe is probably going to implode because of it.

There was a nice theory about why he managed to score with that attempt despite having looked so poor in everything else he’d done.

And it’s not all bad for Drogs. He’s still got quite the record, despite that being his first goal in 20 appearances.

Maybe Mourinho is the special one?

Just a minute or two later Drogba got another chance. Would the man who helped deliver Chelsea’s first two titles under Mourinho be the one to help seal the third? No. No he wouldn’t.

So to answer the question posed in the headline – yes he did. But then, in one wild swipe, he ruined it all.

We can’t imagine he’ll be too distraught though – Chelsea’s 3-1 win, with the other goals coming from John Terry and Ramires, means they’re now just three points away from the title. Roll on Sunday.
