Gus Poyet shows his desire for the Chelsea job

Gus Poyet revealed that it is his aim is to manage his former club Chelsea at the “highest levels” in the future. The current Brighton and Hove Albion boss has also stated that he enjoys the speculation concerning his career because it implies he is “doing something right”.

With Rafa Benitez set to leave his post with the west Londoners at the end of the season, there have been a number of candidates for the soon to be vacant job. And the former Uruguay international has been one of the many to show his interest.

"I want to go to the highest level and if it's the Premier League and it's Chelsea, fantastic," he told reporters. "That's my aim. Everybody knows. I don't hide it.

"I like the speculation because it means we are doing something right. But it doesn't change my life at the moment." He added.

Another former Bleus player to show his interest in the job is Gianfranco Zola who previously said: “Chelsea? I’d be a hypocrite if I said I wouldn’t want the job…”

The 45-year old led his team to promotion as League One champions in his first full season at the Falmer Stadium in 2009.

The current Albion boss made 145 appearances for the Bleus in a four-year spell from 1997, netting 49 goals during the time. He then moved on to Tottenham where he eventually retired.

So, with Zola and Poyet not ruling out a return to their former club, who else could be a contender to take on the post for the Blue Lions?
