Avram Grant believes John Terry is the new "special" one at Chelsea following his heroic performance in the Champions League victory over Valencia.
Terry skippered the Blues in their 2-1 victory in Spain less than 72 hours after undergoing surgery on a depressed fracture of his cheekbone.
The England captain wore a protective mask at the Mestalla but produced an inspirational performance at the heart of the defence.
And Grant, who replaced the self-styled 'special one' Jose Mourinho as Chelsea boss last month, hailed the performance of his leader.
"When you see John Terry you see a player who plays with all his heart," he said.
"I don't know how many players can play with this injury but John Terry's very special.
"He's a player with a big heart and I think that big players need to be an example to the other - and you cannot ask for a better example than this."
Grant was also delighted with the overall performance, adding: "You saw the attitude in the last two weeks, it has been difficult, but it was good.
"It's nice to be at the top. We came here to win the game. I think we want to do it and in the right way. To come back from 1-0, the second half we dominated, I'm happy.
"All the staff and the players have done a very good job."
