Grant backs squad strength

Chelsea boss Avram Grant is confident his squad has enough strength in depth to fight all the way both at home and abroad.

The Blues kept up the pressure on leaders Manchester United at the top of the Premier League table with a 2-0 victory over Manchester City on Saturday.

Their sixth successive victory over City without conceding a goal was achieved without the likes of the rested Didier Drogba, Ricardo Carvalho, Michael Ballack and Petr Cech.

In the Champions League, Chelsea must overturn a 1-0 quarter-final first leg deficit when they take on Fenerbahce on Tuesday, but Grant is confident he has the squad to challenge on both fronts.

Speaking about the changes he made to the starting line-up for the City game, Grant said: "We had to do it.

"First we trust our squad. We do not forget that during December and January almost all the big players were out so these squad players helped bring us to the place we are now.

"So we trust them and you cannot play with players every three games, especially when we came back from Turkey. The body is not a machine."

Meanwhile, the Israeli coach has backed his side to bounce back against Fenerbahce in Europe.

"Fenerbahce are a good team with a good coach," he added.

"I know it will not be easy but I know we can win. We have a lot of quality and can beat anyone."
