Graham Poll's official line: Referee Phil Dowd got the big decisions right in Chelsea Tottenham epic

Phil Dowd was taking greater care than usual over big decisions at White Hart Lane perhaps still affected by criticism of him in the Carling Cup final. [LNB]I agreed with him giving Spurs a penalty after John Terry's handball - and the former England captain's body language seemed to confirm it. [LNB] Big moment: Defoe dispatches a penalty for Spurs after John Terry's hand ball[LNB] Dowd might have awarded Tottenham a spot-kick moments earlier when John Obi Mikel appeared to trip Gareth Bale, but after careful thought, he gave only a corner. [LNB]The two cautions which led to Terry's dismissal were simple, as the Chelsea man's usually great tackle timing deserted him. His clattering into Bale looked an obvious, reckless challenge. [LNB]It was good to see Dowd performing well again, waving away incidents he was uncertain of and, crucially, taking his time.[LNB] TOTTENHAM
