Graham Poll: Manchester United star Wayne Rooney will probably be let off after elbow incident

[LNB]If the Football Association chargeWayne Rooney, they will be going against previous recent cases and willpossibly justify Sir Alex Ferguson's claim that Manchester United areharshly treated because of their profile.[LNB]Once Mark Clattenburg gave Wigan afree-kick surely after some advice from his assistant referee, hencethe delay in blowing his whistle there was no possibility he could saythat none of the officials saw the challenge, and that is what'srequired for video evidence to be used.[LNB] Take that: Rooney appears to elbow McCarthy off the ball in the ninth minute of the Premier League clash [LNB] Rooney did not trip, pull or push JamesMcCarthy, yet a free-kick was awarded so it must have been awardedfor use of the arm. As Rooney was not even cautioned, this incidentwill not be mentioned by Clattenburg in his report. [LNB]Every referee has to submit a report by telephone to the FA via the Press Association, and often do so on the way home.[LNB]Those observers who think that once a referee has seen Match of the Day he will change his report are mistaken.[LNB] I'm innocent, ref: Wayne Rooney (right) and referee Mark Clattenburg (left) at Wigan on Saturday[LNB] [LNB]Of course, if Clattenburg really hadseen the elbow, which replays showed clearly, then he would surely havesent Rooney off and could not have merely smiled and put his arm aroundthe England striker, allegedly saying that he had had a good view ofthe 'coming together'.[LNB]The only possibility for a chargenow would come if the FA send Clattenburg a clip of the incident andask him to reconsider. They have not done this in recent memory, however,  as it is considered 're-refereeing'.[LNB] On target: Rooney scores United's third goal at Wigan[LNB] Back in 2004-05, reporting procedureswere different and I wrote to the FA after I felt I had erred inawarding only a yellow card to Jamie Redknapp for a high tackle on TimCahill.[LNB]The FA agreed, and Redknapp was charged and suspended so itcan be done.[LNB] Rooney fear as FA quiz referee Clattenburg after star striker raises his elbow at WiganWhen will he learn?
