    Germany sweating on Ballack scan

    16 May 2010 - 12:02:22

Germany coach Joachim Low is anxiously awaiting news on the extent of an ankle injury picked up by Chelsea's Michael Ballack during Saturday's FA Cup Final.

The international captained limped out of his side's 1-0 victory over Portsmouth at Wembley just before the half-time interval.

Ballack was clearly in pain after taking a heavy blow to his ankle following a Kevin-Prince Boateng tackle.

Low has confirmed that an initial x-ray revealed no broken bones but Ballack will not know the full extent of the injury until a second round of scans on Sunday afternoon.

The 33-year-old midfielder could be involved in a race against time to be fit for Germany's first World Cup game against Australia on June 13.

"I have tried to get hold of him but have not been able to," said Low.

"I have heard that nothing is broken, which is a relief, and that he will undergo a scan tomorrow (Sunday). I hope he gets good news from the hospital.

"Of course we need our captain. He has so much experience."
