Furlong-inspired Bees down Gills

Paul Furlong inspired Barnet to only their fourth away win as Gillingham's automatic promotion hopes were dealt a major blow in a 2-0 defeat. The 40-year-old former Chelsea forward broke the deadlock after 23 minutes with a close-range header before winning a second-half penalty which was converted by strike partner John O'Flynn.Gillingham's Andy Barcham forced Bees stopper Jake Cole into a low save early on following a rampaging run down the flank. Furlong then powered home his sixth of the season since joining on loan from Southend following a fine cross from O'Flynn.Barnet doubled their lead seven minutes after the restart when Furlong was upended by Mark Bentley just inside the box, allowing ex-Cork City man O'Flynn to strike home his 18th goal of the season.Simon King almost pulled a goal back for the Gills immediately, but his shot curled agonisingly wide of Cole's post.Furlong should have put the result beyond any doubt after 77 minutes after O'Flynn's threaded pass, but the advancing Simon Royce produced a fine block.[LNB]
